RANCHI: A team from the University Grants Commission (UGC) will visit Ranchi College for inspection on October 15 before extending its autonomous status.
The college got autonomy in 2009. The six-member team will stay for two days and inspect libraries, laboratories, drinking water and toilet facilities, among others.
UC Mehta, principal of Ranchi College, said, “The team will see improvement in infrastructure. We have new laboratories, a much improved library with Wi-Fi and much more. We are fully confident that our autonomy will be extended.”
The UGC team will also look into the academic development of the college in last five years.
The team, to be headed by headed by Prof A K Singh of Indira Gandhi Open University, will also interact with teachers, non-teaching staff, students and guardians before preparing a quality report, which will be crucial for the college that is hoping for an extension.
“We have informed the students about the team’s visit and directed them to answer every question honestly. We have also informed the parents who are happy to be part of the inspection,” said Mehta.
The special team will have two state government officials whose names have not been decided.
Most of the students are happy that their suggestions and views will be considered and hope that the interaction will further improve the quality of education and other facilities in the college.
Neha Marwah, an UG student, said, “I am happy that the UGC team is coming here to inspect. Our college is really good but if the team visits then they might give more suggestions to our faculty for improvement.”
Sushant Kumar, another student, said, “While I am excited about their visit, I am also nervous about the possibility of them interacting with me. I hope I answer the questions correctly if I get a chance.”
The college offers honours and general courses in 22 subjects and masters in 10 subjects. It also offers vocational courses like computer applications, information technology, Bachelors of Education and Master of Law are also offered at the college.
